Comprehension:
Comprehension is a core part of the competitive assessment across all the selective schools. However, it is not always text-based. Recently, some schools introduced varied assessment formats to test comprehension skills. The course will cover multiple comprehension formats including:
– Picture based comprehension tasks.
– Graph / data-driven comprehension.
– Written passages ( fiction and non-fiction).
– Comprehending Poetry.
– Exam-style multi-format comprehensions
Writing:
Writing Syllabus: The foundation of Story writing will be the key focus for the week. Almost all the selective schools test story writing in one form or the other. Some require short and quick stories on a number of picture prompts while others ask for a full-length story on a given topic or prompt. In some cases, students are asked to continue a story from a given text. In all cases, the expectations are very high with a required list of must include techniques and devices in the writing.
During this week, the students will be given the opportunity to learn and practice a variety of literary techniques, sentence starters, and figurative language across the story mountain.
Verbal Reasoning:
Verbal Reasoning is also covered within the course and the students will go through a number of exam-style question formats including;
– compound words
– synonyms and antonyms,
– numerical and alphabetical order
– word connections
Maths:
Rapid recall of the mathematical operations and facts
– Mental calculation strategies
– Puzzles mainly magic square
– Money, measure & time
– Problem solving
– Non-verbal reasoning
A short written assessment will be conducted at the end of the course to gauge progress and devise an action plan for the upcoming months.
